Digital photography made images immediate. Film photography asks for patience. You choose a frame more carefully because each exposure feels limited.
That limitation is not only technical. It changes the mood of taking a picture. People slow down, look longer and accept that the final image may contain a little accident.
Objects with memory built in
Old cameras are satisfying because they are visibly mechanical. Dials, leatherette, shutters and lenses make the tool feel like an object with history.
For many collectors and casual users, the appeal is not perfection. It is texture, surprise and the sense that a photograph passed through a process rather than appearing instantly.
